Fashion Picks: Bloggers and Boutiques Edition

I often mention different styles of celebrities and well-known sites for fashion inspiration. However, today I want to show a bit of love to a smaller spectrum.

I am going to highlight some fellow bloggers’ style whom I absolutely adore as well as a few independently owned online clothing boutiques where you can get some pretty unique looks without breaking the bank.

I tend to find a lot of inspiration this way when putting together outfits. Hopefully you love them too!

Style Spotlight: Mod Nails

I’ll be the first to admit that I am not heavily into “girly” activities involving nails, makeup, eyebrows, or any of that particular realm.

However, every now and then I come across something that makes me want to reconsider. That something is mod nails.

Mod style was popularized in 1960s fashion with geometric prints, shapes, and bright colors and has now made its way onto nails, courtesy of skilled nail artists (yay!)

Usually when I am inspired to do something with my nails, I usually just throw on a few coats of my favorite red polish and go about my day.

These nails, though, could potentially become my new go-to (well, maybe not ‘go-to’ since I’m a broke college student, but, you get my drift).

They’re so different and unique from the usual french tips and solid colors. Plus, they’d certainly add a bit of edge to any look, making any girl feel like the perfect blend of bad-ass and class all at the same time.

For those of you who are crafty and would like to try the style out yourself versus visiting professional nail technician, check out this easy to follow how-to tutorial:

Do you see yourself trying any mod nail styles?

Stylespiration Sunday

Hello, odd ducks,

This is the first installment of stylespiration Sundays which shall consist of a showcase of my own personal style each Sunday or pieces that I plan to buy or wish that I could (hey, dreaming can’t hurt).

Today’s post is one of my favorite looks that I’ve donned.

I am wearing a thrifted dress that I chose to wear partially buttoned and mostly undone, paired with thrifted high-waisted cutout Lee shorts. My shoes are also thrifted; they are 90’s Doc Martens given to me by one of my best friends for my birthday about two and a half years ago. The off-white leather jacket pictured is from TJ Maxx, bought two years ago.

My inspiration for wearing this outfit was inspired by *drum roll* nothing.

What do I mean by nothing? Well, when I go shopping, especially thrifting, I feel that it is best to go in with a clear and open mind as you never know what you may find. Going into a store and saying that you are going to buy a purple dress with unicorns (okay, well maybe not unicorns, but you get the general idea) isn’t exactly realistic and it is very narrowing to the many possibilities that you have yet to stumble upon.

The day that I bought the “dress” pictured above, I went in looking for a shirt to go well with a black lace skirt I own and came out with the dress instead. The dress fit me nicely, which was the reasoning for me buying it; however, I am also short so I knew if I wore it how it was intended, then I would probably resemble a tree stump splattered in paint. So, I improvised.

Improvisation is key. Look for what could be in your pieces versus what they are.

This always makes for a better, heightened representation of who and what you are in the pieces you choose to wear.
