Stylespiration: The Jumpsuit

This past week has been full of award shows and appearances with a lot of fashion successes and fails. One main theme seemed to be the jumpsuit. Jumpsuits have recently come back into popularity and can be found in a wide range of stores, from high-end to more affordable options.

I love the jumpsuit because it is so effortlessly chic and can easily be dressed up or down, depending on one’s mood, occasion, and style.  They also just give off this aura of confidence from the women who wear them and wear them proud.

Here are a few of my favorite looks from celebs this week who have each rocked the jumpsuit in their own unique way:

Stylespiration: Rocking the Platform

One of my many, many current  obsessions  items right now are all things platform. I absolutely adore the way that the chunky platform boots and sandals look when on. If I’m not on the hunt for loafers, then these are the shoes I’m buying in every color imaginable.

These sandals are characterized by their appearance of being a boot, but having a very thick heel, similar to that of the style of the 70s. But, they are not your mother’s retro Saturday night disco boots. These boots have been made more modernized, as pictured below: Modern Platforms

Palazzos, Tribals, and Lace

This weekend was very interesting. Friday night kicked off the beginning of a long homecoming weekend. I participated in lots of fun-filled events and activities with friends. Since this homecoming marked the very last one before I graduate (tear, tear), I wanted to go for something a bit different in my outfits: Screenshot_2014-10-12-19-55-28-1 Continue reading

Turning ‘Seasonal’ Attire into Year-Round

Many people would probably argue that playsuits, high waisted shorts, and vibrant colors are seasonal. I am not one of those people. In fact, I think wearing them year-round, “off season”, is even more an indicator of one’s fashion daringness and sense of style. I mean, who decided these things were seasonal anyway? That is about as ludicrous as the “no white after labor day” rule. The beginning of fall just means it’s time to play it up, that’s all. But, I digress.

I’m a huge fan of hosiery, socks, and beautiful colors and patterns. Being that I am, I tend to incorporate the four into most of the things that I wear. This is also how I am able to wear, shorts for example, in the middle of October. How? Well, Taking the elements of season (weather, feel) into account and then adding what I love is all that I do.

Stylespiration Sunday

Hello, odd ducks,

This is the first installment of stylespiration Sundays which shall consist of a showcase of my own personal style each Sunday or pieces that I plan to buy or wish that I could (hey, dreaming can’t hurt).

Today’s post is one of my favorite looks that I’ve donned.

I am wearing a thrifted dress that I chose to wear partially buttoned and mostly undone, paired with thrifted high-waisted cutout Lee shorts. My shoes are also thrifted; they are 90’s Doc Martens given to me by one of my best friends for my birthday about two and a half years ago. The off-white leather jacket pictured is from TJ Maxx, bought two years ago.

My inspiration for wearing this outfit was inspired by *drum roll* nothing.

What do I mean by nothing? Well, when I go shopping, especially thrifting, I feel that it is best to go in with a clear and open mind as you never know what you may find. Going into a store and saying that you are going to buy a purple dress with unicorns (okay, well maybe not unicorns, but you get the general idea) isn’t exactly realistic and it is very narrowing to the many possibilities that you have yet to stumble upon.

The day that I bought the “dress” pictured above, I went in looking for a shirt to go well with a black lace skirt I own and came out with the dress instead. The dress fit me nicely, which was the reasoning for me buying it; however, I am also short so I knew if I wore it how it was intended, then I would probably resemble a tree stump splattered in paint. So, I improvised.

Improvisation is key. Look for what could be in your pieces versus what they are.

This always makes for a better, heightened representation of who and what you are in the pieces you choose to wear.
